Have questions about the Art Center's new membership levels and benefits? We've got you covered!
Q: I received the mailed notice to members regarding changes to benefits and want to renew at the old rates. Is this possible?
A: No. The new membership levels are now in effect. Our membership and donation pages are temporarily closed for a planned sales outage in order to transition to a new system and convert our current memberships to the new levels. Membership sales will resume by the end of the day October 2.
Q: How long is my membership active?
A: Your membership will expire at the end of the month one year from the date of purchase. Renewing early will extend your current expiration date one year.
Q: May I still make my membership gift in installment payments?
A: Yes. You could pay as little as $11.67 a month by joining/renewing at the Ambassador $140 level or above. Take advantage of quarterly or monthly installments at no additional charge by calling us at 515.271.0324. All we need is your membership information and a valid credit card.
Q: Do you offer discounts on memberships?
A: Degree-seeking students (18+), educators, artists, seniors (65+), and active military personnel are eligible for a 20% discount on memberships at the Individual level only.
Q: Do you still honor matching gifts?
A: You bet! You may be able to double or even triple your contribution to the Art Center through a matching gift. Contact your company’s HR department for a matching gift form and return it with your payment. Your membership level will correspond with the total gift amount.
Q: Is my membership tax deductible?
A: For individuals who itemize, Art Center memberships are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Different membership levels carry different benefits associated with them. We are able to provide you with a good faith estimated value of the goods and services provided. Ultimately, we advise consulting a tax specialist.
Q: I want to purchase my membership using a donor advised fund or through my private foundation. How does this work?
A: IRS regulations prohibit the use of donor advised funds and private foundation funds to purchase memberships.
Q: I’m not receiving member emails or notifications about special events, why?
A: If you are not receiving member emails, please contact Membership Manager Julia Mason Gray via email. There are a variety of reasons why you may not be receiving member emails or mailed notifications based on your selected preferences or membership status.
Q: Can I receive a refund for my previously purchased membership?
A: No, a membership functions as a donation to the Art Center and is not eligible for a refund.
Q: Do you donate memberships for fundraisers or silent auctions?
A: Yes, on a limited basis.
Q: I’m currently a member. What do I need to do to access the new perks effective October 1?
A: Absolutely nothing. On October 1, your Art Center membership will automatically update to the new giving level closest to your current level. When your membership expires, you will be asked to renew at the new level.
Q: What if I want to renew or rejoin at the old rates?
A: Renew or rejoin by clicking here before September 25. This is a one-time opportunity to take advantage of the current rates. If you have renewed or joined within the past six months, you must call the membership office at 515.271.0324.
Q: I want to travel with other members in the Member Travel Program. What level should I join to participate?
A: All members will have access to regional travel opportunities with the base benefit package. Members at the Ambassador ($140) level and above will be invited to travel nationally, and Philanthropic Circle members at $3,000 and above will receive first invitation to travel internationally with the Art Center Director, when applicable.
Q: Do members receive reciprocal benefits at other museums?
A: The Art Center participates in the North American Reciprocal Museum Association (NARM) and the Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums (ROAM) which offer free or discounted admission to participating museums for members at the Ambassador ($140) level or above. Members at the Influencer ($250) level and above receive member benefits at an additional 70+ modern and contemporary museums through the Modern and Contemporary Reciprocal Membership Program (Mod/Co).
Just show your qualifying Art Center membership card while visiting one of the participating museums. If you have specific questions about your entitlements, we recommend contacting the individual museum before you visit, as the list of reciprocal museums may change without notice.
Q: I’m a member at the Activator level, how do I purchase a gift membership for a new member using the 20% discount?
A: Please call the membership office at 515.271.0324 if you a member at the Activator ($550) level or above to purchase gift memberships using the 20% discount. We are happy to assist you with fulfilling the gift purchase.
Q: I’m a Philanthropic Circle member and I’m entitled to a free gift membership at the Individual / Dual level to give as a gift to a new member. How may I redeem this benefit?
A: Upon joining or renewing, you will receive a voucher in the mail to present to the recipient, valid for one year. If you misplace your voucher, please call the membership office at 515.271.0324 for assistance.
Q: My child wants to take classes and we would like to utilize the 20% discount. What level should we join to receive the discount on classes?
A: Dual / Household membership benefits extend to two adults residing in the same household and any dependent children or grandchildren. The name(s) of the adult(s) must be listed on the membership. Children under the age of 18 are not eligible for Individual memberships.
Q: I’m a member at the Ambassador level and I’d like to attend an Art for Lunch but they always fill quickly. What should I do to ensure a seat?
A: Beginning in 2019, all six Art for Lunch sessions will be listed on our website at the beginning of the year. You may select one of the six sessions you wish to attend by logging in and registering on our website, or contacting us via email. Note: You must give at the Ambassador level ($140) or above to access this benefit, and please only register for one session annually to allow the most members access to this benefit.
Q: I’m getting married in 2020 and would like a discount on the facility rental. What do I need to do?
A: Congratulations! Join at the Influencer ($250) level or above for a discount on facility rentals.
Q: What is the name of the new benefit where members can apply to spend three hours alone in the museum and how do I apply?

Q: How are member groups (Art Noir, Print, Club, Salon 4700) impacted by these changes effective October 1?
A: We have listened to your feedback. Moving forward all member group expiration dates will coincide with Art Center membership expiration dates. When it is time to renew, you will be asked to renew your membership and any member groups at the same time.
Q: I want to join Salon 4700. What level should I join to participate?
A: We’ve streamlined our program so now Salon 4700 is a benefit at Influencer ($250) level or above with no additional fees or action required.
Q: May I join Salon 4700 at a lower level and pay a fee?
A: No, but within the first six months of your membership, you may upgrade to the Influencer ($250) level by calling the membership office at 515.271.0324.
Q: What if I am currently a Contributor member ($110) and paid the $100 Salon 4700 fee this year? Will I still be a part of Salon 4700?
A: Yes! Since we are eliminating the fee for Salon 4700, on October 1 your membership will be upgraded to the Influencer ($250) level. When it is time to renew, you will be asked to renew at the Influencer level with no need to pay any additional fees for Salon 4700.
Q: What about Art Noir?
A: Membership to Art Noir is free to all active Art Center members. If your Art Noir and Art Center memberships are active they will continue to be active after October 1. You must rejoin Art Noir annually to remain a member of the group.
Q: What about Print Club?
A: All Art Center members have the opportunity to participate in Print Club by paying an additional annual fee at their desired level (Student $15, Individual $35, Household $50, Benefactor $150). The Print Club annual fee will be prorated so the expiration date for the Print Club membership coincides with the expiration date for the Art Center membership.
