October 2018: Alyssa and Isla Bowers
on Monday, October 15, 2018
As part of the Des Moines Art Center's new My Museum Monday program, each month an Art Center member will be invited spend time in the museum when the building is normally closed to the public. We received dozens of applications to take part in this experience and are excited to begin sharing them with you.
When we asked "What would you do with three hours alone in the Art Center?," Art Center member Alyssa Bowers submitted this response:
"First, I wouldn’t be alone, I would let my five-year-old daughter accompany me. Since my daughter was a baby we have been visiting the Art Center. It is one of our favorite places. A couple of years ago we made up a game [where] she would try to find the perfect piece of art to match her outfit. It used to be spontaneous but now she likes to plan her outfit to match an artwork she remembers. So if we had three hours alone at the Art Center it would involve a suitcase full of outfits, a camera and a five year old playing dress up with the artwork. I know a ballet outfit would be involved!"
Today Alyssa and Isla joined us for an afternoon adventure in the Art Center's galleries that included that ballet outfit, lots of twirling, and so much more.
