on Thursday, October 6, 2016
Heading to X: Celebrating a Decade of Art Noir this weekend? Heard about the party and not sure what to expect? We've got you covered.
Q: What is X?
A: X is a film noir inspired costume party. X takes place at the Des Moines Art Center and is hosted by the Art Center’s YP group Art Noir to celebrate ten years of the group making a positive impact on the Des Moines art scene.
Q: What do tickets include?
A: Each ticket includes: costume contest with prizes (best couple, most creative, best overall); hand-drawn black and white portraits by Portrait Studio; live music by NOLA jazz quartet and DJ Mickey Davis; one complimentary signature drink and full cash bar; and late-night snacks.
Q: Who can buy tickets and when?
A: Attendees of this event must be at least 21 years of age.
Advance tickets are available online and at the Art Center until midnight on Friday, October 7. Tickets are $30 for non-members and $20 for members. Tickets will be available the day of the event for $40.
This event has a limited capacity and will not be oversold.
Q: What time do doors open?
A: Doors open at 8 pm for everyone. All attendees must check in upon entry.
Q: Where can I park?
A: Parking is limited in the Art Center lot; however, additional parking can be found north of the Art Center along Polk Boulevard or southeast of the Art Center along 45th Street.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Attendees who purchased advance tickets will check in via a will call list at the door.
Tickets will be available for purchase via cash or credit card at the door. A cash bar will also be available.
Don’t forget your ID—we will be checking!
Q: What shouldn't I bring?
A: This is a costume party; however, no electronic cigarettes or vaporizers, outside alcohol, live animals, fake squirting blood, roller skates, skateboards, or real or fake weapons will be allowed inside the Art Center.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Go dapper or glam, or take things to the darker side. Think 1940s, black and white film, provocative femme fatales, floppy hats, elbow length gloves, having gangsters as boyfriends, jazz singers, the good guys in films and the shady characters harboring secrets and committing crimes, cops, detectives, reporters, fedoras, suspenders, five o’clock shadows, suits and ties...
Still stumped? You can follow Art Noir’s Pinterest board for costume ideas leading up to the event.
Q: How do I tell my friends what a great time I'm having?
