Tour of the State Historical Museum

David Schmitz , Community Resource Specialist at the Iowa Arts Council, will talk about the history
and impact of the Art in State Buildings program which provides for a half-percent of public construction
costs to be allocated to the purchase of fine art. For nearly 35 years, this program has had a significant
impact on the development of the arts – and collecting of prints – in Iowa. Also, Leo Landis, Curator, will
lead a tour of the State of Iowa Historical Museum vault, which contains a large collection of works on
paper related to our State’s history and culture.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with Paul Shao, professor of architecture at Iowa State
University, and his Chinese woodblock prints. Shao began collecting Chinese prints from
Weifang, in Shandong Provice, one of the most important wood block printing centers in
China. He will show us photographs of the printing process and prints from woodblocks
dating back to the Qing Dynasty.
Etchasketchathon Discussion and Studio Time

Asa Wenzel-Fisher is a master lithography printer who trained at the most important US center for
lithography, the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, NM. He recently opened his professional
editioning workshop, Whole Hog Press, in Ames, and has begun collaborating with artists. Plan
on making the short drive to Ames to visit with Asa Wentzel-Fisher, preceded by brunch at The Café.
Rick Von Holdt Printing Demonstration and Picnic

He will host Print Club for a picnic and visit to see his presses and type at his country home. This is a
