Part-time Security Guard


Call for Volunteers: Art Center Greeter

We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to assist our Visitor Services team by handing out visitor information, providing directions, answering questions about the Des Moines Art Center and its collection, and escorting guests to their destinations.

These individuals must be comfortable engaging visitors in conversation. Standing for long periods of time is required. Commitment of at least two three-hour shifts per month is required. Available shifts are Saturdays from 10 am – 1 pm and 1 – 4 pm, and Sundays from 12:30 – 3:30 pm.

Docent Program

Become a docent and learn more about the world of contemporary art. A docent is a museum-trained volunteer who conducts tours at the Des Moines Art Center and Pappajohn Sculpture Park for children or adults. The word "docent" is derived from the Latin word docere meaning "to teach."

Interested candidates must have an active e-mail account and be comfortable with digital communication. Candidates must be able to attend training classes every Thursday from 9:30am-noon and be available to lead at least one tour per week.
