The Des Moines Art Center is known for its world-class collection of artwork and magnificent
architecture. The Art Center is seeking a part-time Admissions & Communications
Assistant
to act as the Art Center's ambassador to the general public and provide excellent
customer service by relating information and answering visitor inquiries at the front information
desk.

Primary Responsibilities
  •Promote positive public relations and generate excitement about, and interest in, the Art Center
  •Deliver excellent customer service to the public in person and over the phone by providing
   directions, answering questions, and relating information about Art Center exhibitions, programs,
   and activities
  •Maintain current information in brochure stands and kiosks

Required skills and experience
  •Good attitude and willingness to work in a confined space for the majority of the work day
  •Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  •Strong customer service skills and the ability to appropriately diffuse angry or upset visitors
  •Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and proficiency at navigating the Internet

Physical Requirements
  •Work is mostly sedentary or light work
  •Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities which
   demand detailed or important instructions spoken to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly
  •Some light lifting or pushing required to assist physically challenged visitors

Other Requirements
  •Be able to successfully pass a criminal background check
  •Must have reliable transportation to and from work

Work is generally performed inside a climate-controlled environment with light background noise.

This is a part-time position consisting primarily of daytime shifts on Saturday and Sunday;
Thursday evenings; and periodically, other evenings when events are scheduled for an
approximate total of 12 hours per week.
Scheduled hours may vary depending on institutional need.


Starting wage is negotiable based on skill and experience.
