Landscapes from the Permanent Collection
February 14 — June 1, 2014
Blank One Gallery
The concept of landscape, whether depicted in straightforward documentation or manipulated and altered into unrecognizability, is something nearly every artist has considered throughout time. For some, their natural surroundings serve only as inspiration, while others eventually take landscape as their great subject. Unearthed presents a selection of works that demonstrate the many ways 20th- and 21st-century artists portray and redefine the notion of landscape, capturing rural vitas,
urban jungles, and sometimes marking the earth with their own bodies.
Artists include Harry Callahan, Olafur Eliasson, Ana Mendieta, and Alec Soth, among others.
