Animals in Art

Mosaics

Mosaics have decorated walls, floors, and columns for 5,000 years. Small colored pieces of ceramic tile are embedded in a binder such as mortar. In class, you learn all the steps to making a small mosaic to enjoy.

Stained-Glass Design

Capture the beauty of light and colored glass. In this class you can make a lampshade, kaleidoscope, or suncatcher. Both leaded and foiled stained-glass techniques are explored. Adults are welcome.

Mosaics

ALL-STATE ART CAMP FOR TEENS

All-State Art Camp

The Art Educators of Iowa and the Des Moines Art Center invite energetic and motivated young artists to participate in the sixth annual All-State Art Camp. This camp is especially designed for students interested in pursuing the visual arts in college and those preparing portfolios for the AEI All-State Competition. Students entering grades 10-12 in the fall of 2008 are eligible.

Visiting Artist Tracy Duran presents traditional approaches to drawing and painting. Sonny Assu, Canadian artist included in the exhibition World Histories, presents design challenges related to his work as he motivates students to combine words and images as they design contemporary product packaging.
