EDUCATION

Overview
Educational outreach has been of vital importance to the Art Center since its inception. Education initiatives reinforce the Art Center’s position as an important learning resource and underscore its role as a vital and energetic cultural gathering place. Our educational programs and materials respond to the needs and interests of our community. Our goal is to help all museum visitors make sense of art and find inspiring connections between art and life. We aim to accomplish this through opportunities that:

• open doors in visitors’ imaginations
• foster and promote creativity
• inspire critical thinking through visual analysis
• demystify the artistic process
• encourage on-going participation with the Art Center

Classes and Workshops
The Des Moines Art Center is dedicated to fostering lifelong learning in our community. The Education Department organizes a wide range of programs for diverse audiences, many of which pertain to the exhibitions and collections. With terms beginning in every season, classes are available in many disciplines for people of all ages at any level of skill. In addition, family and adult workshops and children’s day camps offer something for everyone, including a way for families to spend time learning, creating, and enjoying art together.

Members receive a 20% discount on classes and workshops! Join today!

The Art Center also takes its resources directly to the community through on-site school programs, a visiting artist who works through community organizations, and exhibition-specific teacher training sessions.

Come learn, relax, create, and express yourself at the Art Center!
