Film + Tandem Gallery Talks

2 pm Gallery Talk: Art Center Director Jeff Fleming with Eulanda Sanders

Three unique tandem gallery talks are offered throughout the run of the exhibition and are paired with the film, Fold, Crumple, Crush. Each gallery talk speaker will share their distinct perspective on the works presented in the show. Participants may choose to attend one or both components of each day's program. All programming will take place in Levitt Auditorium.

Eulanda Sanders is the Donna R. Danielson Professor in Textiles and Clothing at Iowa State University. Professor Sanders is a knitter and textile artist and has traveled to Ghana and used Ghanaian textiles in her apparel design work.

7 pm Gallery Talk: Art Center Associate Curator Laura Burkhalter with Catherine Hale

Catherine Hale is curator of African and non-Western art at the University of Iowa Museum of Art. Hale comes to the University from Carleton University in Canada, where she has been teaching, researching, and curating exhibitions in African art for the Carleton University Art Gallery and the Agnes Etherington Art Center at Queen's University.

7 pm Gallery Talk: Senior Curator Gilbert Vicario with Edward DeCarbo

Edward DeCarbo is adjunct associate professor at Pratt Institute in New York City. He has two degrees in international relations and two others in anthropology and African studies. His field research is in West Africa with a focus on aesthetics, the place and practice of the arts in everyday life.
