Teen Workshop: Collections, Materials, Placement, and Meaning

8/14/2017 - 8/18/2017 / 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Application Deadline: Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Experiment with materials and different kinds of arrangements within the limitation of a found structure. This workshop presents an incredible opportunity to work with artist Lauren Fensterstock, whose sculptures are featured in the exhibition, Ruptures. Explore the obvious and latent meanings of material choices. What do paper, wood, crushed steel, paint on canvas, tin toys, or fabric communicate?

Visit the exhibition Ruptures and the Art Center’s permanent collections as you consider how material choices affect meaning. Challenge yourself to take your thought process a step further as you think about different kinds of collections. Learn about wonder cabinets, natural history collections, surrealist collage, and modern assemblage.
