Reinstalling the Mark Di Suvero Sculpture "T8"
on Tuesday, August 23, 2016
It's no secret that we love the works in the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. But did you know they're also part of the Art Center's permanent collections? Among other things, this means that our staff is responsible for the sculptures' maintenance and continued care.
In July, our installations team worked with the Chicago-based Methods & Materials to remove the Mark Di Suvero sculpture T8 from the Pappajohn Sculpture Park so it could receive a fresh coat of paint. Fun fact: Red is one of the colors most susceptible to fading due to sunlight.
During that time, we interviewed Chief Preparator Jay Ewart about the process and when we'd see the sculpture back in the park.
Less than a month later, both teams returned with the freshly painted steels beams to reinstall this iconic work in the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.
